It’s April!!

This morning I wanted to write something snarky on Facebook like “Would someone PA-LEEZE tell Wisconsin that the calendar has flipped!”

Then the words of my son came back to me. “Mom,” he once said, when people complain about this weather, it’s not spring they want but summer! This IS spring weather – at least in Wisconsin.”

I used to LOVE spring as a kid! April was my favorite month of all! But maybe that had more to do with an April birthday and the fact that I lived farther south.  Now I live in The Land of Eternal Winter and by the time my boots are put away, I want to break out my flip flops and sunscreen!

The truth is, one cannot get to summer without first experiencing spring– even a Wisconsin spring!

And to wish away today in anticipation of tomorrow is, well, sad… and kind of wasteful. Consider today’s date. Whatever the day might be when you’re reading this, it will never be so again. While we pine away for the tomorrows, we’re missing the blessings that only this day can bring!

In addition, we have no idea what is ahead! We may think it will be better in summer…. well, at the very least the weather should improve… but who knows what else we’ll face?

Today is the only day of its kind. Look for the blessings throughout – who knows that the rain-snow-sleet  type of weather  is exactly what someone else was praying for! (Okay, sleet is stretching it a bit.)

As I face this dreary wintry April day, I recall one of my favorite verses,

“This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

How will YOU rejoice today?
