Free Samples!

Did you know if you try a little sample of fudge in all the candy shops on Mackinac Island, you will have consumed 1 pound of fudge by the end of your tour?

Yummmm! Who doesn’t love samples!

I am especially fond of the warehouse stores whose friendly representatives entice me to try things I may never have considered before. They know I might be more willing to invest in their product if I take a little nibble first.

Today I want to share another kind of free sample. In the heart of the Psalms, we hear the invitation:

“Taste and see that the Lord is good.” Psalm 24:8a

Taste and See…a sweet invitation from God saying, “Test me, try me. Let me show you my goodness. Come, get to know Me.”

Taste and See.

This is no sales pitch, but a loving, free offer to learn about, discover, and know personally, the God of the universe.

That can seem a bit overwhelming. Some might think, “Yikes! He might expect things from me! It might take too much time! He might find out about the REAL me.”

Guess what? He already knows all about you. He knows about your past, present and future. He sees your reluctance and reasons for keeping Him at an arms-length. Yet still He says, “Taste and see.” Why? Because He loves you and wants to bless you.

The verse in Psalms goes on to say, “Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.” He wants to be your refuge in times of trouble. He wants you to know PEACE like you’ve never known before. But mostly, He is offering the free gift of salvation!

Sounds like an offer too good to be true, but take it from me, it’s not!!

Where can you find this amazing offer? It’s right in front of you. HE’S right in front of you. If you’ve read this far, simply talk to God right now and say, “Lord, I want to know you.”  Then, look for Him in His word, the Bible.  Seek Him at a Bible-believing church and you’ll find Him.  Ask Him where to go, and He’ll lead you.

There’s a promise (among many) in the Bible that goes like this:

“Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord.” (Jeremiah 29:12-14a)

See, He’s not hiding from you, God WANTS to be found.  In fact, He’s been waiting, patiently calling to you. Taste and see!

Have you ever tried something and after said, “I don’t know how I ever lived without it?” That’s how it is when you accept this invitation.

But don’t take my word for it, TASTE and SEE for yourself!
